Second City Chicago Training Center: Immersions
Posted on August 7, 2013
I’m back in Portland after two great weeks in Chicago teaching a double header of the Story for TV and Film immersion I created. Over the course of five days and thirty hours at Second City, we covered everything from idea generation to breaking the story of a TV pilot to detailed scene work. Both groups were as enthusiastic and creative as I could have hoped for, and I have great faith that they’ll continue forward with the projects they started during the immersion. I so enjoyed meeting all the students and being back at the mothership!
I also teach a version of Story for TV and Film for Second City online – the next session starts in November. Here’s the class description:
Students familiar with the Second City model of comedy writing will explore visual writing, story structure and character in preparation for creating longer works for TV and film. Using Blackboard, the class will read existing scripts, view film and television selections, and create and workshop original ideas. Through instructor and class feedback, each student will leave the course with a fleshed out prose description of their project, structural suggestions for moving forward, and character descriptions.
